About this role

This role ensures the integrity of building systems by performing routine maintenance and minor repairs while supporting efficient equipment operation. Under the supervision of the Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief Engineer, you will provide hands-on support for general maintenance tasks across the property.

Day-to-day duties include repairing restroom facilities, clearing drains, changing lamps and air filters, and maintaining door hardware. You will also handle minor furniture repairs, floor maintenance, basic painting, and general cleaning of mechanical spaces and engineering areas.

You will work alongside tenants, engineers, and contractors while carrying out maintenance tasks, communicating professionally with teammates, leadership, vendors, and client employees. Safety is a priority—you will follow protocols, use PPE, and ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulations.

This position offers the opportunity to develop proficiency in hand tool operation, mechanical repairs, and exposure to HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. It is a 100% in-office role requiring standard business hours, with occasional after-hours, weekend, and holiday work as needed for emergencies.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical or vocational training, or 1-2 years of on-the-job training in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, process controls, or plumbing.
  • Basic working knowledge of laptop and phone applications for work order and facility operation systems; basic skills with Microsoft Outlook.
  • Possess engineering and trade licenses required according to local, state, or national requirements.
  • Familiarity with fire/life safety equipment and procedures.
  • Proven track record of delivering excellent internal and external customer service; ability to interact with tenants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Familiarity with blueprints and code requirements.
  • Ability to work after hours, weekends, holidays, and during emergencies as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs in restroom facilities, including toilets and soap dispensers; clear drains using plungers and handheld augers.
  • Conduct general labor tasks such as carrying, stacking, and sorting materials; remove debris.
  • Safely use employer-provided vehicles to travel for parts and supplies, adhering to all traffic laws.
  • Maintain or replace door hardware; handle minor furniture repairs and floor maintenance; perform basic painting in equipment rooms.
  • Replace lamps, air filters, ceiling tiles, and fire extinguishers.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with teammates, leadership, vendors, tenants, and client employees in a professional manner.
  • Follow safety protocols and use PPE for all tasks; ensure compliance with OSHA, NEC, NFC, NFPA regulations; promote safe environments by reporting hazards.
  • Perform cleaning and inspections of engineering areas, mechanical spaces, and equipment as assigned.
