About this role

The Housekeeper / Room Attendant maintains cleanliness of all guestrooms according to brand specifications and quality standards. They work within the housekeeping department and report to the Housekeeping Manager. This role is essential for ensuring guest satisfaction and upholding the hotel's reputation.

On a daily basis, they thoroughly clean all assigned rooms, maintain inventory of items, and communicate status to the supervisor. They report lost and found items, damage, or unusual circumstances like sleep-outs or no luggage in stay-over rooms.

The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside weather, and airborne particles or chemicals. Noise levels are usually loud. Housekeepers must follow safety procedures for cleaning agents and key control, and be able to carry out hotel emergency plans.

Housekeepers assist guests with questions and requests, maintaining a positive work atmosphere. They restock their housekeeping cart and handle dirty rags and linens properly. The role requires flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays to support hotel operations.

Requirements

  • Must be able to understand the proper use of equipment and chemicals and verbal instructions
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning agent handling and safety procedures
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Able to operate equipment such as garbage disposal, vacuum cleaner, self-cleaning oven, icemaker, and dishwasher
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • No educational requirement

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly clean all assigned rooms within prescribed brand standard guidelines
  • Maintain inventory of every item placed in guestrooms
  • Communicate status of cleaned rooms to Housekeeping Supervisor
  • Report lost and found items immediately, listing room number or area where item was found
  • Report damaged or missing items to Maintenance and Housekeeping Supervisor
  • Use all authorized cleaning agents properly and safely
  • Follow proper key control procedures
  • Restock and maintain housekeeping cart
