About this role
Fairlawn Real Estate is seeking a highly motivated Maintenance Technician to join our team in Decatur. The ideal candidate will embody our core values: Be Kind, Own It, Be Flexible, and Always Improve.
In this role, you will directly handle a wide range of maintenance repairs including plumbing, appliances, electrical, and roofing inspections. You will also perform skilled maintenance and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other physical structures while handling residence turnover and small renovation projects.
You will maintain good rapport with current and prospective residents, complete maintenance requests in a timely manner, and document time, expense, and results. You will also regularly assess the property for safety and preventative maintenance opportunities while complying with all OSHA regulations.
This role offers the opportunity to work for a growing organization where you are valued and can have a direct impact. You will serve as one of the emergency contacts for the communities, including handling on-call maintenance requests for after-hours emergencies.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid Driver's License with at least 2 years of driving history and ability to successfully pass MVR background requirements
- Proficient with relevant technology (e.g. Microsoft Office, AppFolio, Outlook) and ability to easily adapt to changing technology
- Superior attention to detail, high energy, and a positive attitude
- Ability to work independently and pivot to jump in where needed
- Willingness to learn and ensure compliance with all Fair Housing Laws including local, state, and federal housing regulations
Responsibilities

- Directly handle a wide range of maintenance repairs including plumbing, appliances, electrical, roofing inspection, and minor roof damage
- Perform skilled maintenance and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other physical structures
- Handle residence turnover including direct participation in turning units, obtaining bids from subcontractors, and small renovation projects
- Maintain good rapport with current and prospective residents
- Complete maintenance requests in a timely manner and document time, expense, and results
- Regularly assess the property for safety and preventative maintenance opportunities
- Serve as one of the emergency contacts for the communities including handling on-call maintenance requests for after-hours emergencies
